Understanding salvation

We are all sinners in need of a Savior.

Where it all started

You may know Satan as the devil, the enemy, or even as the father of lies. Some know him as Lucifer and believe it or not, Lucifer used to be an angel of the Lord. Isaiah 14:12. Ezekiel 28:11-19 However, he desired to be higher than God. (which is impossible). He wanted honor and glory that belonged to God and God only. As a result, this was the start of sin. Sin is anything that goes against God. God is Holy and Righteous and sin goes against His nature (His character).

Sin first began with Satan and by now we know who he is. The Bible tells us that Satan is the father of lies and his purpose is to steal, kill and destroy. It’s His assignment. John 10:10.

Adam and Eve disobeyed God. They did something God told them not to do. God instructed them not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Genesis 2:16-17. God gave them access to every tree but this one. The enemy deceived (tricked) Eve. Genesis 3:13. Satan made her question what God said and soon after, both she and Adam ate from the tree. This was the tree God instructed them not to eat from and they did. Their disobedience and unfaithfulness caused them to sin against God and as a result, sin entered the world.

We, me, and you are sinners in need of a Savior.

We are not able to live a life acceptable and pleasing unto God without having Jesus first. God knew this and He had a plan. He sent His one and only Son, to die for our sins. Jesus paid the price for us in full. It was through the love and blood of Christ that has brought us out of sin (darkness) and into light (eternal life). Jesus was fully God and fully man. This means, He felt the pain of being beaten, betrayed, and bruised and as He carried His cross He was weak. This did not stop Him. Jesus was committed to the plan God had for us. To restore humanity back to Himself. On the cross, it was finished. The power of sin was broken and we are now children of God. God no longer sees our sin but He sees the sacrifice His perfect Son made on our behalf. Our sins are now covered by the blood of Jesus and washed clean. 1 John 1:7.

As we finish this day together, let’s look at it this way. There were two plans. One for evil, destruction and ends in death. And another plan for good, restoration, and one that is rooted in unfailing love. It was because of Christ's love for us that He decided to lay His life down. And He did this knowing we would sin again, and again. "For God so loved the world, He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life". John 3:16.

Salvation, a free gift of God's grace and this journey you are on is filled with love. It started in Love.

Thank you, Jesus, for dying for a sinner like me. Thank You for the blood that was shed, for laying your life down so I can one day live for you and see you face to face. Thank You, God, for Jesus. Thank You for the sacrifice You have made. Thank You for Your plan to restore humanity back to You. May we experience the fullness of You and who You are. Give me wisdom and understanding as we navigate this new journey together forever. Teach me Your ways. I love you, Jesus. In Jesus name, Amen.
