The Word of God
The Bible is the Word of God.
All scripture is inspired by God. The Bible is reliable and without error. 2 Timothy 3:16. The Word of God is our foundation, it holds our life purpose. When building a house the most important part is the foundation. The strength of a building depends on its foundation. If the base of a house is not strong, solid, or properly placed, the house will possibly break down. It won’t survive a storm, earthquake, or hurricane. Matthew 7:24-27.
With taller buildings, it’s even more important to have a strong foundation. The higher the building the more support it needs. When we become a believer in Jesus, it doesn't mean life stops. Life and things are still going to happen. When something unexpected happens in our life, what do we hold onto? What will be our response? Will our life be built on solid ground or when something happens we jump to anxious thoughts and feelings? As we grow in Christ each chapter of our story (life) requires us to be deeper in His Word. We have to hold and grab tightly to His word.
But why God’s word?
It is through God's word we hear His voice. Every part of Scripture is from God and is useful for all stages of life. The Bible is true, alive, powerful, and active. It has the power to transform (change) us. Hebrews 4:12 The Bible holds God’s plan for our lives. It encourages, guides, corrects, and gives insight into God’s plan for us in every aspect of life. The Bible holds His wisdom, His goodness, His intention, His judgment, His instructions, and His heart. Through the Bible, we can learn what God loves and what breaks His heart. It is the only book that has the power to change hearts, our life, and our thoughts and has the power to renew and set us free. As we stay in His Word, we learn the truth and it sets us free from all lies. John 8:31-32
The Word of God is our nourishment. It’s the source of life. Eating is a part of our daily life. We eat because food provides energy and strength to get through the day. We function well when our stomachs are full. When we don't eat the right foods, we are weak, our focus is off, and we are at risk for sickness.
This is the same as the Word of God. Our nourishment comes from the Word of God. We do this by reading, studying, learning, and hearing His voice. We feed our Spirit by God’s word and His truth. Matthew 4:4. Through hardship, God's word will keep us.
Set time aside each day to read The Bible. Everything we need is there. Here are a few starting points and tips on reading the Word:
-
Pray before reading and pray during. Are you weak? Find scriptures about what God says about weakness? Do you need Strength? What does God say about being our Strengthener? Biblical Truth 2 Corinthians 12:10
-
Pick someone from the Bible and read about them. Write down a few things about them and what you learned from them, maybe some things you both have in common? What are some of your takeaways?
-
Break down each chapter you read verse by verse to get the full understanding/meaning.
-
Define the words you don’t understand.
-
Have a physical Bible that you can highlight and write in. My Bible is Teen Devotional Bible NIV. I love this Bible because it has fun facts, devotionals, questions to answer, background history, and much more.
-
Recommendation: The Book of John gives insight and a detailed version of the life of Jesus or you can even start by reading the chapters and scriptures we talked about these couple of days so far.
-
The Bible App provides different resources such as different versions such as NLT, NIV, AMP, KJV, etc. The Bible App also includes devotionals and videos to help you know and understand the Word of God.
Thank you Father for your words that have the power to change, restore, transform, and renew. I ask that as we read Your Word, You will open my hearts, my mind, to receive all that you have for us. Help me to apply them to my life. I love you, Father. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen.
