What Covered By Sin Looks Like

To continue from where we left off, in this post, we are going to find out how God protected Noah and His family. We will hear conversations God had with Noah and understand what happened during the flood.

God told Noah to “Build a large boat from cypress wood and waterproof it with tar, inside and out. Then construct decks and stalls throughout its interior. Make the boat 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high. Leave an 18-inch opening below the roof all the way around the boat. Put the door on the side, and build three decks inside the boat—lower, middle, and upper.” Genesis 6:14-16 The boat Noah was going to build was going to be big. It required time, strength, focus and commitment. The boat needed to be large enough for Noah, his family, and every animal (big, small, tall and short) the Lord instructed Noah to bring.

As Noah finished building the boat, God saw everything was ready. He then instructed Noah to go inside the boat with his family. God gave Noah very detailed instructions, and Noah obeyed. Something we can take-away from Noah was his obedience to God. Noah listened to God and did exactly what the Lord said. On the boat, Noah had to bring seven pairs of animals, both male, and female to eat and sacrifice. As well as seven pairs of every kind of bird, and this was to ensure there would be a life after the flood.

Soon after, raindrops started to fall from the sky. The flood began. It rained for 40 days and 40 nights, and the waters covered the earth. Genesis 7:13-16. For 40 days, the water got higher and higher, and the floodwaters grew deeper. The water was so high it covered even the highest mountain on earth. Every living thing on earth died. God wiped the earth clean, and no one survived. Not one person and not one animal. Everything was destroyed. The only people who survived were Noah and those with him in the boat. Genesis 7:23. The Bible declares in Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord". The payment to their sin was death.

Genesis 8 It was now time to leave the boat. God said “leave the boat, all of you-you and your wife, and your sons and their wives. Release all the animals-the birds, the livestock, and the small animals that scurry along the ground-so they can be fruitful and multiply throughout the earth.” This is a blessing. We are here because of the mercy and kindness of God. Before, during, and after the flood, God had us in mind. He wanted the earth to be filled with His creation again. He gave us a second chance, and with that second chance came a promise.

“I will never again curse the ground because of the human race, even though everything they think or imagine is bent toward evil from childhood. I will never again destroy all living things. As long as the earth remains, there will be planting and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night.” Genesis 8:20-22

God made a covenant (an agreement, a promise) to Noah, that He will never again destroy the entire earth through a flood.

We have a promise! In the next post, we will be learning about God’s creation, the RAINBOW. I hope to see you there!
