Faith and Favor

In the last post, we learned about the world before God flooded the earth. We learned that the earth was full of sin and this broke God’s heart. There was an increase in evil, destruction, and immorality. God, who sits on the throne saw all that was happening, and it broke His heart. He was sorry He ever created humans and allowed them to be on earth. God said to Noah, “I will wipe this human race I have created from the face of the earth, I will destroy every living thing-all the people, large animals, the small animals that scurry along the ground, and even the birds of the sky.” Genesis 6:7

Today, in Part 2 of our Rainbow series, we are going to speak of someone who did fear God. Someone who was faithful and committed to God. He walked in close relation with the Father and his name is Noah.

Who is Noah? And why out of all creation Noah and his family were the only ones to survive the flood?

Noah was a righteous man. He was found blameless in God’s eyes. Noah was the only person living a life in close fellowship with God. He loved God and followed His commands and instructions. Noah listened and obeyed God. Because of this, both he and his family found favor with God. Genesis 6:9

During this time, no one was searching for God. They had their plan and lived a life that was tasteless to God. As a result, no one heard from God, no one cared to hear the Word of the Lord, and God spoke to the one person that was listening. That person is Noah. God had Noah’s heart and Noah’s ears. God said to Noah, “I have decided to destroy all living creatures, for they have filled the earth with violence. Yes, I will wipe them all out along with the earth!” Genesis 6:13

This was the beginning of the end.

Every living and breathing thing will destroyed.

Before God destroyed the earth, he sent Noah to warn the world of His righteous judgment. Noah obeyed and told the people about God’s judgment in hopes they will repent (change their hearts and mind to sin no more).

This is a display of God’s love, mercy, and patience. God sent Noah to tell the people as a warning. He gave them space and time to seek Him, seek forgiveness and turn away from their wicked ways. However, no one, not one, accepted this truth about God’s judgment.

I can’t imagine how Noah felt telling everyone about what God said and them not taking it seriously. I’m sure it caused God and Noah pain and heartache.

It’s safe to say the people were content in their sin and their hearts were hardened. They were so deep in sin and comfortable living that way. Hebrews 11:7 But, the faith, faithfulness, obedience, and sacrifice of one caused His family to be saved. God protected Noah and his family through this time. 2 Peter 2:5

Come back for Part 3! We will be learning about how God protected Noah and His family. What did God tell Noah to do? We also will be diving into the flood and what happened during that time.

I am excited to grow more in God's Word with you!
