Happy September!
To all that have been called to work closely with students. Whether your Administrator, Teacher, Professor, Paraprofessional, Counselor, Teacher Assistant, Principal, Superintendent, or, Secretary, how has it been being back at work?
As I write this post, I can feel the burden of the Lord.
Some of us are burned out, tired, ready to quit, uninspired, mentally drained, and even heartbroken at the school system. Some of us feel unloved, unappreciated, undervalued and overlooked. If this is you, you're surely not alone. I have also experienced these same feelings and emotions. I’ve worked within the school system for about 3 years now, and last school year was one of the most challenging and draining school year for me. There was a time last year when I was ready to quit, leave, and go on to the next thing. I spoke to God “I need a word from You, I need something to hold onto and if You, God, don’t give me a word, I’m leaving.”
He reminded me of this and I wanted to share it with you.
The work, effort and time you've poured into each child was/is not in vain. We have the privilege to work alongside students who are in need. It’s an opportunity for us to pour and plant seeds within them, that will soon become a crop of good and healthy fruits. We were chosen to be in a close relationship with the upcoming generation. This is the moment for us to train and raise a future generation that will hopefully never depart from our teachings. We’re able to say yes to a child, people count out. We’re able to serve, assist, and advocate for those who have mouths but can’t speak. We have the opportunity to be the example, to be the ones that set the standard, and to stand in the gap.
Every student has a different story. They all have experienced life so differently, in the same way we have. How can we be the person our younger self needed and show up as that for the children we serve?
If this post was for you, lean into the comfort and counsel of the Holy Spirit. He's near and he’s our first Teacher. He’ll show you, direct you, speak to you, encourage you. He has done it for me, and He’s still doing it. I still struggle with everything mentioned in this post but grace is available. There’s a great reward and a special grace given to us. There will be a day, when they think (thank) of you.
Let’s go reset and meet the need of our students together, again.
